2021 The Barrel Climber Pinot Noir

2021 The Barrel Climber

Pinot Noir

SONOMA COASTsonoma county

SPECIAL: $54.00
RETAIL: $65.00

TASTING NOTES

The 2021 Barrel Climber Pinot deftly marries two outstanding sources from disparate ends of the Sonoma Coast: The iconic Charles Heintz Vineyard, a higher altitude, Pacific Ocean-adjacent planting outside of Occidental and an old favorite, Roberts Road located in the heart of the Petaluma Wind Gap.

Combining these two very distinctive sources allowed a wonderful synergy of cooler and warmer sources within the appellation and exhibits the qualities we love from both styles. Heintz lends higher toned fruit (red raspberry, crunchy pomegranate, and cranberry) while Roberts Road brings a black-fruited silkiness and warm spice accents. Redolent of earth, fruit, and spice, you’ll find rose petal, incense and bramble prowling in the background of the lush fruit on the palate.

To heighten the character of both vineyards, all the fruit was fermented 100% whole cluster, starting with carbonic, finished traditionally and then aged 18 months in older “neutral” puncheons after being old-school foot trodden to gently extract the color. Whew! A lot of thought and love went into making this wine, so we hope you get to experience it!
