Tasting Notes

While the popularity of Sauvignon blanc is at an all-time high, for some strange reason we seem to be one of the few treating it as an equal to Chardonnay in the cellar. We’re constantly tinkering in search of the ultimate expression for the Barrel Climber cuvée.

For 2019 we once again employed 50% whole cluster (carbonic) fermentation and raised all of the juice in barrel, mostly older French, allowing the exotic Rauscedo and Musqué clones to shine through and avoiding too much overt oak flavor.

Outrageously aromatic with intense notes of guava, passionfruit, pink grapefruit, jasmine and lychee this wine has the intensity and texture of a Chardonnay but with so much more flamboyant character. As someone once said, “this one goes to 11.”

The excellent, oh-so-well-integrated backbone of natural acidity provides freshness, helping it pair with a wide variety of food. It’s fabulous flying solo too.
