Tasting Notes

If this wine appears a bit more hazy in the glass than last vintage…well, that’s a good thing! When we get supremely clean fruit from a killer vintage like 2018, we have the option to send it to bottle unfiltered and preserve every ounce of character brought in from the vineyard.

Once again, Green Acres gave us the material to craft our most old-world style of Chardonnay. Chalk it up to the Hyde clone which, even when fully ripe, retains an excellent level of natural acidity. Raised entirely in our favorite puncheon (perfect for this type of fruit) the end result is a wonderful yin-yang of a wine: powerful, concentrated fruit with a nervy core and finishing with a refreshing lemon oil quality.

There’s a distinct, Burgundian “matchstickiness” (read “flinty”) on the nose while the fruit profile features classic Green Acres flavors of green apple, quince and lemon curd. Serious stuff here and a wine that we think reaches far beyond the oft-typical “cocktail” chardonnay. Best paired with food (but undeniably delicious flying solo) the 2018 will improve for years to come.

As mentioned earlier, this wine is unfiltered, so if it has been laying on its side for a time, you may wish to leave it upright for a few hours before serving.
