2018 Atoosa's Vineyard Syrah

2018 Atoosa's Vineyard

Syrah

RUSSIAN RIVER VLYsonoma county

ALLOCATION LIST: $41.40
RETAIL: $46.00

Inky and intense, Atoosa’s is for true lovers of Syrah and perhaps our most individualistic bottling of the grape. While pinot gets all the credit for being site-specific (e.g. tasting like where it is grown) Syrah does the same, if not more so.

There’s a primal quality we get from Atoosa’s every year that is not always easy to describe… deep, mysterious forest may be the closest description we can find. Seemingly bottomless black cherry, framboise and blueberry surrounded by those arboreal suggestions of bay leaf and bark. As the wine sits in the glass, violets, dried fennel and exotic Asian spices emerge. For the patient and/or attentive, there’s an amazing depth and many rewards to behold, particularly as the wine ages and blossoms further.

As with recent vintages, we handle the fruit from this vineyard with extra care – no new oak, a large percentage of whole cluster fermentation and gentle foot treading. Even so, Atoosa’s provides us with some of our most age-worthy Syrah. We suggest a long cellar nap (or extended decanting) for the most excellent experience.
