Tasting Notes

Our second release from a renowned Sonoma Valley parcel, the 2015 is a super lush and forward rendition of this southern Rhone grape. Fresher fruit, creamier texture and suppler in body than its structured 2014 predecessor, we think you’ll find this bottling quite open and ready to please on release.

We had fun in the cellar employing a variety of traditional techniques: 25% whole-cluster fermentation for enhanced spice and a bit of semi-carbonic candied fruit, a long soak on the skins post fermentation to tame the tannin and create a softer texture, plus aging in old neutral puncheon with no new oak to interfere with the story. What emerged was complex and delicious and after numerous blending trials, we finished it all off by adding just 1% of Atoosa’s Vineyard 174 clone Syrah for final polish and flare.

Almost a stand-in for a brawny, fruit-driven Pinot, this Grenache is just as versatile at the table and will complement a variety of dishes, especially those that call for a boldly fruited, spicy wine.
