Tasting Notes

Fans of our 2014 The Barrel Climber Chardonnay, please take note! You will be absolutely delighted with this year’s rendition. Once again we married a few select barrels of Hyde clone from Green Acres destined for our 1 KM West blend with a bit of our precious Green Acres Hill Old Wente block. A different new oak regimen provides underlying support to this year’s cuvee – a surprise even to us – as our barrel and blending trials took us down a new road. But just like our 2014, this Chardonnay will easily cellar for 5-6 years or more and be an absolute stunner when it enters its prime drinking window.

We upped the ante with 100% native fermentation, a month-long program of daily lees stirring, and a variety of different barrel influences. Combined with 2015’s tiny berries and intensely concentrated fruit (typical of the vintage) what emerged is a bold and broadly textured wine with lovely acidity and all the stuffing to provide years’ worth of drinking decadence. Another micro-cuvee with only 81 cases produced, we hope you’ll get to experience this wine’s journey with us over the years to come.
