2014 Green Acres Hill

Chardonnay

SONOMA COASTsonoma county

ALLOCATION LIST: $41.40
RETAIL: $46.00

TASTING NOTES

This single vineyard Chardonnay is sourced from a small “hill” section of the larger Sangiacomo Green Acres vineyard. Planted to the revered (and shy bearing) Old Wente Clone, the block reveals a signature character every year — naturally derived nutty, custardy richness and vibrant acidity that prove you can have both power and precision in a Chardonnay.

A striking green-golden color in the glass, Green Acres Hill offers a bright hit of lemon curd, green apple and citrus rind deftly playing off of a nervy acid backbone. Decidedly old world in character, there’s a serious intensity from this parcel that we shepherd carefully in the cellar - employing native primary fermentation and mostly older barrels (only 8% new French oak) to allow the vineyard to speak for itself.

In 2014, we began working with the gorgeously racy Hyde clone from just across the creek at Green Acres and chose to include 5% in the final blend, adding glorious high tones to the ensemble of aromas and flavors. A tremendous vintage, this wine is a fantastic candidate for the cellar. Hold on to some if you can! Our 2014 Green Acres Hill Chardonnay will reveal ever more of its mysteries for years to come.
