Yellow Rock

Yellow Rock

SONOMA COAST

vineyard stats

We've been looking forward to Yellow Rock Vineyard (named after an old quarry on the ranch) coming online for several years, as it's comprised of six acres planted to our own specifications, including rootstock, clones and block locations. Happily, it looks like 2012 will finally be the year it all comes together. The vineyard is owned by Will Petersen and sons, who provided much of the fruit for earlier vintages of our Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. We expect our two Chardonnay blocks at Yellow Rock, planted to Old Wente and Dijon 95, will quickly find a home in future vintages of that same appellation wine. We also hope to bottle a vineyard-designate Chardonnay once the new blocks have matured a bit.

In addition to our three acres of Chardonnay, we'll be working with three acres of Pinot Noir planted to Pommard, Calera and Dijon 115. This later-ripening coastal vineyard should provide the perfect climate for Pinot. Just slightly warmer than our Freestone sites, the end-result should be a true Sonoma Coast Pinot that still manages to showcase full and vibrant California fruit.
