Ray Teldeschi

Ray Teldeschi

DRY CREEK VALLEY

vineyard stats

Ray Teldeschi's sun drenched vineyard sits on a plateau several hundred feet above the valley floor in Dry Creek and produces ripe, full wine that provides the perfect cornerstone for Kalen’s Big Boy Blend. After several years of experimenting with various vinification styles, we came to the realization that the best way to make Ray’s Syrah is to let it be exactly what it wants to be: big and lush with plenty of fruit, a perfect expression of this warmer, sunnier site. We fully de-stem the clusters, crush a portion of the fruit, and avoid over-extraction from the skins by using mostly pumpovers rather than punch-downs. We press and barrel down the wine before it is completely dry, allowing it to finish fermentation in barrel without further extracting too much hard tannin from the skins and seeds. Just last harvest, we began working with a bit of Grenache from this site which may find it's way into our Kalen's blend as well. We'll keep you posted!
