Syrah
DRY STACK VINEYARD Bennett Valley

Tasting Notes:
2007 hearkens back to a cooler vintage like ‘05, but what a different wine! A clonal mix of 877, 174 and 470 – no Estrella River in this one – plus 1/3 whole-cluster fermentation and more time on the skins has made a wine with layers of complexity, wonderful depth, a medium to full body and great structure. Dry Stack Vineyard is developing into a tremendous site for distinct and heady aromatics: dark blackberry, black cherry, blueberry, a touch of caramel, pepper, crushed rock, spiced jerky and hints of coffee. The palate this year puts the “dark” in the dark side of Syrah. Brooding blackberry and dark raspberry are enhanced by black pepper, iron, cocoa, a hint of root beer, big yet smooth tannins and just the right acidity for a deliciously long finish. Without doubt this is the most balanced, complex and noteworthy Dry Stack wine we have ever made, with a long and rewarding cellar life ahead of it.
