Syrah KALEN'S BIG BOY BLEND Sonoma County Club Pre-Release: $33.50 |  Retail: $40.00 Tasting Notes: As our son Kalen becomes a bigger boy, he becomes an even smarter boy, more patient, adaptable and refined in his expression. It's only natural that Kalen’s Big Boy Blend Syrah tries to keep up. Dark purple in color, the nose offers up plum, blackberry, boysenberry, maple, minerals, light pepper, fresh earth, herbs and porcini mushroom. (A trusted tasting group can come up with a glorious set of adjectives!) The palate reveals rich yet balanced tannins and more acidity than it’s ‘06 predecessor, both of which provide ample foundation for the plum, blackberry, blueberry, cinnamon, vanilla, pepper and smoky meatiness that follow. A vibrant and tightly wound youngster, this Big Boy has a year or two more of finishing school in the cellar before reaching its pinnacle of polish and poise.
