Daniel Lewis

Daniel Lewis

2003When we decided to feature Dan’s work on our 2003 Bennett Valley Syrah, we asked him to give us a little background about himself as an artist -- when did he start? Why does he paint? His written response was so simple and so perfect, we give it to you here in its entirety:

I am 23 years old. I am here for now, and before I leave I want to create as much as I can, to love and to look, to laugh and to listen as much as I can. As I live this life, I try to take moments that grab me, for whatever reason, and put them into pictures. That’s all. And if someone likes something I make, that makes me happy. But more importantly, when it’s over, I’d like to honestly feel that I’ve left the best I could behind me.

Dan’s paintings soar with childlike freedom and rendition, but haunt you with emotions that speak of a much older soul. It’s as if channeling the hands and vision of a child, Dan reveals more purely than words ever could the complexity that makes all of us adults. We’re delighted he decided to join us as part of Eric Kent’s inaugural vintage!
